James and the Amazing Gift

We are delighted to announce the release of James and the Amazing Gift, by Nicola J. Rowley, published and ready to take up a place on everyone’s Christmas wish-lists.

James has an amazing gift. He loves to smile. He also has an incredible ability to make everyone he meets smile too. But one day, whilst he’s at a garden centre with his mummy, he sees an elderly lady who does not want to smile. She is sitting in the corner with her purple hat pulled down over her face. She is all alone. James has to work really hard to get her attention. Will he be able to make the old lady feel as if she is no longer just by herself?

James and the Amazing Gift is an uplifting children’s picture book about how a smile can go a long way to impact the lives of others. Written by Nicola J. Rowley, it is her debut children’s book and focuses on happiness, positivity and spreading joy. Inspired by Judith Kerr, Julia Donaldson and David Melling, this beautifully illustrated story is for children aged between 3-7 years. The book aims to teach children of the importance of helping others. Nicola also hopes to raise awareness of the loneliness of elderly people, especially around Christmas time.

£1 from every copy sold will be donated to Contact the Elderly (now Re-engage), helping us to spread more happiness and joy amongst those aged 75 and over who are living alone. Nicola chose to make this generous donation as a direct result of taking part in a special Contact the Elderly tea party, held at the BBC offices where she works.

James and the Amazing Gift will make an ideal Christmas present for the smiley children in your life! The book can be bought directly from independent UK publisher Troubador and is also due to be available through other online stores such as Waterstones, Foyles and Amazon.

If you’ve read the story, Nicola would also love to hear from you, tweet her your thoughts using her handle @nicolajrowley and the hashtag #amazinggift
