Scams and fraud

Older people living alone are some of the most vulnerable to becoming victims of scams and fraud. One person who fell victim to scammers was a 78-year-old widow, Dorothy*. She was conned out of £100,000, although she was fortunate enough to get nearly all of it back.

Tea and cakes at the Imperial War Museum

The Re-engage Southwark 3 and 4 tea party groups were invited to stage one of their free monthly tea parties at the world-famous Imperial War Museum, where guests and their volunteer helpers were welcomed with cake and sandwiches during a two-hour visit.

Sheena has been part of the Re-engage family for 15-years, first as volunteer host and driver, and now as a guest.

She explains that the companionship and the opportunity to meet up with people of all ages is something "we all look forward to it a great deal."

Our tea parties are a vital source of companionship for older people. For many, they are the only social reason they have to leave the house.
