Thanks to Good Morning Britain’s 1 Million Minutes campaign, we have received hundreds of new applications from people interested in volunteering for Re-engage. We’re looking forward to welcoming new volunteers to Re-engage in the coming months.
Below, we’ve outlined the steps that we take to welcome new volunteers and older people to Re-engage.
Steps to becoming a Re-engage volunteer
When a potential volunteer fills in the application form on our website they’ll receive an email telling them that we’ll be in touch once we’ve found a role for them.
Once we’ve found the perfect volunteer role, we’ll contact them to book a time for an informal interview.
In the informal interview, they’ll learn more about the role they’ve applied for, and we’ll take the opportunity to get to know a little more about them too.
Following the interview, if the role is still right for them, they’ll receive an email with a link to the checks that they will need to complete for the role that they have chosen. We’ll also ask them for the details of one person who can provide a reference.
Once the checks are complete, they’ll receive an email with a link to our training, which is all on the Re-engage website.
Once they have finished their training, all they need to do is tick the online box to say that they have done it and then we will know that they are ready to start volunteering.
The team at Re-engage, or the group coordinator if they have applied to be a tea party volunteer, will be in touch next to get them started.
The time it takes to become a Re-engage volunteer can vary from person to person and will depend upon whether we have the right role for them and how long it takes for them to complete their checks, provide their reference, and complete their training.
Steps for an older person joining a Re-engage social group or call companions service
When an older person, or someone on their behalf, fills in the application form on our website they will receive a confirmation email telling them that we will be in touch once we’ve found a space for them.
Once we have found a space, we’ll give the older person a call to chat about the Re-engage service that they want to join. We’ll also use this time to get to know the older person a little bit.
The team at Re-engage, or the group coordinator if they have applied to be a guest at tea party group, will be in touch next to arrange their first call or visit.
The time it takes for an older person to join a Re-engage service varies and will depend upon how many vacancies we have available at the time.
