Re-engage volunteer driver Lorna Brown stunned TV viewers and a live audience when she gave a sensational performance on the prime-time BBC programme, Michael McIntyre’s Big Show.
Lorna, 41, who has been a host and driver for the Armadale group in Scotland for many years, was the ‘unexpected star’ on the Saturday evening programme which attracts 7.5m viewers. And her surprise appearance resulted in a standing ovation after Lorna gave an astonishing rendition of Snow Patrol’s ‘Run.’
Lorna, who is Head of Passenger Experience at Network Rail in Glasgow, was secretly put forward for the singing spot by husband Scott and mum Janice. As part of the set up, Lorna was told she was going to stay in an Airbnb apartment, which was really a mock-up at the back of London’s Theatre Royal in Drury Lane, where the show is filmed. As she opened a 'fridge' in the apartment, Lorna was confronted by the live audience. After regaining her composure, she brought the house down at the end of the show and was joined on stage by Matt, Janice and children, Molly, 15, Luis, 10 and nine-year-old Sonny.
“It was a surprise and an amazing experience,” said Lorna who also runs community choir, Sing West Lothian. “I could never have imagined that I would be on stage singing like that. Everyone made me feel so special. I’ve been singing since I was eight and I absolutely love it but I just don’t have time to go professional. I sing in the bathroom, that’s about it. I don’t like a lot of fuss.”
Lorna always takes her children to our tea parties because she wants them to mix with other generations. She explained: “They really enjoy going along, taking the tea orders and clearing up afterwards. And the older people go into granny mode when they see them. It’s such a nice thing.
“I feel you should always help people as much as possible and I get a lot from life by giving to others.”
Through the choir Lorna also helps organise Christmas dinners, feeding 500 last year.
Lorraine Colquhoun, group coordinator for the Armadale group, said: “Lorna was absolutely amazing on the show. She has a fabulous voice but is so modest. She and her children are very popular in the group.”
