Sam Clegg hits the right notes at festive tea party
Sam Clegg, whose Christmas song is raising funds for Re-engage, was a huge hit when he performed for the Leeds 1 and 2 tea party groups.
Sam’s three-and-a-half minute video, which highlights the impact of loneliness, has been viewed over two million times on social media and his song 'Send me a sign' topped the download charts. Sam is generously donating 79p from every record sale to Re-engage and Friends of the Elderly. So, far 1,100 have been sold.
Around 40 older people and volunteers were at the North Yorkshire home of host, Jacky, where the group enjoyed shepherd’s pie before joining in with Christmas carols. The festive afternoon was rounded-off by 25-year-old Sam who received enthusiastic applause after singing his hit.
Sam, from Keighley, said: “It was a really lovely afternoon and so heartwarming to see all the people there that my song is helping.
“It’s the first time I’ve performed live for eight years so I had to warn them beforehand that I might be a bit rusty. But they were really kind and seemed to enjoy it.”
Jacky, who has volunteered for Re-engage for 10 years, said: “It was great having Sam there and to see how much joy it brought to the guests.
“It’s so good having someone like him coming along as it encourages the younger ones to take an interest in what we do.”
