Could you give some of your time to reduce loneliness, and support older people to be more active by bringing generations together in friendship and shared experiences?
Volunteering at Re-engage can be an incredibly rewarding experience.
We all have different reasons for getting involved. Some of our volunteers have or have had older people in their lives who have bought them joy or who have experienced loneliness. Others are feeling a twinge of loneliness themselves following a change in circumstance. Whatever your reason, we are here to make sure that all our volunteers are fully equipped, trained, and supported to break the cycle of loneliness in an older person’s life and bring happiness and wellbeing back to them.
What we do
At Re-engage, we work within the local Bristol community to organise volunteer-led activity groups for people aged 75 and over to help reduce loneliness, social isolation and improve physical wellbeing.
Would you like to get a group of older people active and engaged within their local community?
Our groups host a range of activities including dance, chair yoga, carpet curling, light fitness, singing and boules. We are looking for:
- Volunteer activity group coordinators to run local Re-engage groups across Bristol. Our team will give you all the support you need to get up and running.
- Volunteer drivers who can pick up one to two activity guests from their homes to take them to a monthly or fortnightly Re-engage group in their local area.
- Volunteer activity leads – welcoming friendly facilitator who can lead a group of around four to 15 people aged 75 and over in any gentle physical activity to get people moving.
What will you get from volunteering?
By volunteering with us you will have:
- The opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of older, isolated people in your local community.
- Full training for your role.
- The opportunity to learn transferable skills.
- The chance to make new friends and feel connected with your local community.
Why volunteer with us
Studies show that volunteering can improve both your mental and physical health, boost self-esteem and help you become more socially connected.
94% of volunteers feel like they are making a difference to somebody as a result of volunteering with Re-engage.
“Driving activity guests to their group is a very positive aspect of my life and also provides a valuable service to others. You realise you’re doing something worthwhile when you see what enjoyment the guests get out of them."
