Become one of our research partners

If your research has the potential to reduce or eradicate loneliness and social isolation for people aged 75 and over, or enhance understanding of these issues, we could support you.

Our loneliness research accelerator programme supports people looking to scale promising research and innovations to tackle and understand loneliness and social isolation for older people across the UK.

From time to time, we also commission specific research projects that support our ongoing activity.

Why types of research do you support?

We support research that will enhance the quality of life for people 75 and older living in the UK, by enhancing our understanding of - and / or helping to reduce - loneliness and social isolation. This includes systematic reviews, feasibility trials, and studies taking quantitative or qualitative approaches, such as ethnographic projects or sociogram mapping.

How do I become a Re-engage research partner?

Simply complete our loneliness research accelerator application form to tell us about your project and how it aligns with our goals. A member of our team will review your application and contact you.

Guidance for research partners

As part of our research integrity framework, we expect any Re-engage research partner to agree to two central principles:

1. Involving people with lived experience in research

Our older people are at the core of what we do, and it’s vital to involve those who have experience, expertise and interest in loneliness and social isolation in our research. One of our strategic objectives is to provide opportunities for older people to influence perceptions of this demographic and ageing, with a view to shaping the policies, services and facilities that affect them.

Members of our older people’s research and advisory groups have direct experience of social isolation and loneliness and are either former or current users of one of our loneliness intervention services or volunteers delivering loneliness intervention services. A majority of our members are aged 75 and over. As members, they contribute to our research by sharing firsthand experiences, ideas and views. If you would like to involve members of our groups in any aspect of your research, please let us know via the loneliness research accelerator application form. Learn more about the Re-engage research group.

2. Open access research

We believe that publications arising from our research should be widely available to other researchers as well as the public. We ask all our partners to read our research integrity framework, for more information on our research tenets.

Publications must follow our accessibility guidelines and will be uploaded to our research hub.

If you are a company / organisation looking to work with us in a different capacity, you can contact our impact team to find out more about our consultancy service.
