Activities in your group
(2 minute read)
As an activity lead volunteer your role is to organise the activity for your group every month. This could stay the same or can vary from month to month depending on your group. This document will give you some ideas of the types of activities you could deliver or host in your group.
Exercise and physical activities
Physical activity can be defined as any movement of the body that requires expending energy. It includes any motion you do through the day - excluding sitting still or lying down. For example, walking, using the stairs, mowing the lawn, and even cleaning the house can be considered a physical activity. Exercise is a type of physical activity but not every physical activity is exercise. Exercise is a planned, structured, and repetitive activity for the purpose of improving or maintain physical fitness.
Exercise
To deliver an exercise session, for example, dance, Tai Chi or chair yoga you must have a qualification in delivering or coaching the activity along with up to date public liability insurance. We would not advise that activity leads deliver a specific exercise class unless they are qualified to do so. Please contact the Re-engage support team if you have any questions about delivering an exercise session.
Physical activities
Physical activities are any movement that encourages the body to move. Activity leads can deliver a form of physical activity that can stay the same or vary from month to month.
Here is a list of example activities:
- gardening
- boules
- skittles
- walking
- badminton
- frisbee
- boccia
- cornhole
We are always looking for new activities to run as part of our project so please do get in touch to discuss your activity ideas with the Re-engage support team.
