Volunteering at Re-engage
In this section you’ll learn about the range of training and support we provide, and the boundaries that everyone at Re-engage works and volunteers within.
Re-engage volunteers
Volunteers are the lifeblood of Re-engage and we’re proud to work with 9,200 volunteers across the UK. Re-engage volunteers commit to older people and have a deep capacity for kindness which makes the charity what it is.
Whether its drivers taking a longer route home so the older guests can enjoy the view, hosts making efforts to celebrate special birthdays of their older guests, or call companions’ sincere care for the older people they're calling, Re-engage volunteers embody our value of warmth.
Interestingly, the average length of time a volunteer stays with Re-engage is four-and-a-half years; many stay for considerably longer.
Quotes from Re-engage volunteers
“I was feeling the need to help out in my own small way while I was stuck at home in lockdown. It felt like a pleasure to get to know someone else at a time when making new friends was a real challenge. The experience has been brilliant. I’ve really enjoyed the chats. We have a lot of shared interests so it’s always interesting.” – Call companion
“The ladies in our group are so grateful for everything we do for them. They are a delight to spend time with and we have some very entertaining and interesting conversations. It's nice to feel that we are bringing a little joy to their lives and offering help if they need it.” – Tea party group coordinator
