A pair of Re-engage volunteers in Scotland brushed off their favourite outfits and stepped into a very special tea party fit for royalty.

Kirkcaldy group leader, Kerrie Hutchison, and volunteer, Catherine Nealon, were guests of King Charles and Queen Camilla at a special summer event in the grounds of Edinburgh's Holyrood House attended by around 3,000 people.

Despite predicted thunderstorms, the rain thankfully held off, and Kerrie and Catherine were able to mingle – although not too closely – with Princess Anne, and Scotland’s First Minister, John Swinney. Kerrie was nominated anonymously to be a garden party guest and took along Catherine in recognition of her contribution to volunteering.

Kerrie, 59, has rebuilt the Kirkcaldy Re-engage social group since moving from south-east London a few years ago. Kerrie said: “We didn’t get to meet the King, but nevertheless it was a magical day. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity and we had a fabulous time.

“The King was a very generous host. There were sandwiches, cakes, tea and ice creams. We certainly didn’t go home hungry.”
